1. Script Summary
Script summary of “Farewell in the Waltz” Inspired by “The Girl From the Other Side” - “Gris” - “Arcane” Message: Overcoming the grief of losing a twin sibling OPENING On a small hill amidst a field of white anemones, surrounded by tall trees, a white butterfly lands on a branch, then takes flight. AIDEN stands at the foot of a lonely hawthorn tree, his left hand holding a strange book, he holds out his right finger for the butterfly to land on. At the foot of the tree is an old violin bound by some tree roots, a partially hidden stone slab at the base of the tree. Soft light shines down on the field, the hawthorn tree is in bloom, light particles fly around, the field landscape is a pure white. MAIN FILM After a while, AIDEN walks into the forest, a raven perched on a high branch watching him. He was carrying two things: a violin in his right hand and a book in his left. He looked down at the book with a sad expression, but then his left hand tightened its grip on it. The cover looked like a grimoire (a book of magic). He turned his head and looked ahead. From the forest, he could see a thatched cottage, somewhat dilapidated from the outside. As he got closer, he could see weeds growing around and on the walls of the house. Opening the door revealed a dark scene: decaying, dusty furniture, a dark gray-blue room, the light filtering in through the window panes, combined with the dust, creating a slightly hazy atmosphere. Aiden entered the room and saw a few remaining items: a double candlestick, a torn picture frame, a broken mirror reflecting his image. Light from the window caught Aiden's attention—a music stand. PLOT ----------------------------------------- AIDEN placed the grimoire on the music stand and opened a page containing strange symbols, including a musical score. He traced a bloodstain on the page with his left thumb. AIDEN stood before the window, preparing to play, but his eyes showed a hint of hesitation as he looked away, then closed them tightly. He raised his bow and drew it closer to the instrument. Light from the window shone on AIDEN—illuminating him from behind—and the melody began. On the table behind the window were several objects: a double candlestick with a broken candle, a bloodstained piece of broken glass, an upside-down picture frame, and the faint image of a raven behind the window. A stream of dark energy gradually flowed from the page of the magic book, transforming the bloodstain into the shape of a raven's head. AIDEN closed his eyes and played the instrument; for a moment, the surrounding space turned pitch black, and a luminous hand reached out from behind AIDEN. He stopped playing and suddenly opened his eyes. Sensing what had just happened, he turned to look behind him, towards the table by the window. In the corner of the table, a picture of AIDEN, seemingly a family photo, was visible, but it was torn. Suddenly, on AIDEN's left hand, the hand stained with blood, black streaks appeared, causing him pain, making him instinctively wince and clutch his injured hand. A black feather. AIDEN gazed intently into the violin as if the violin were looking back at him. He decided to take the feather back to the field with the book and the violin. High above the house, a flock of crows circled, signaling impending misfortune. He hurried through the forest, seeing even more crows perched on the trees. Black streaks began to appear in his right hand, holding the book and the feather. Upon arriving, AIDEN set the violin down in the field. From within the violin, a white butterfly emerged. AIDEN took the feather, intending to bring it closer to the butterfly, but at that moment a crow swooped down and snatched both. The feather and the butterfly's spirit merged into one, the feather forming a shell around the butterfly. At that instant, a multitude of other crows appeared from nowhere, converging and transforming into the monstrous crow. He fled from the demon, but the curse's effect caused him excruciating pain, sending him tumbling to the ground. Aiden struggled to his feet, narrowly dodging the crow's attack just as it struck, and dashed to the base of a hawthorn tree. Just as the demon was about to attack again, more seeds flew around, forming a shield that stopped it. AIDEN realized this was due to the hawthorn tree's power, and he saw the fused entity in the middle of the demon's chest. He stood up wearily, clutching his aching arm; the curse had now spread to the right side of his face. Despite the pain, he gritted his teeth and decided to pick up a fallen hawthorn branch nearby. He ran towards the crow monster, jumped on it, and used the branch to sweep across the monster's body, causing it to partially disintegrate and its fused form to fall apart. He also fell. In its final rage, the monster unleashed a wave of blackness, engulfing everything in darkness. At the same time, the fused form glowed, revealing some kind of figure inside... In the pitch-black darkness, the violin lay alone. Then, slowly approaching, a pale, ghostly figure, only its lower half visible, picked up the violin. In its right hand, it held a book resembling a grimoire, seemingly intending to leave. AIDEN lay unconscious in the darkness, his body weakening from the curse. The white ghost approached AIDEN; from behind, its form was that of a small girl with long hair, wearing a dress, her face hidden. The girl helped AIDEN up, and he slowly regained consciousness. His eyes dimly saw the girl's face; she wore a butterfly-shaped hair clip on the right side of her hair. He gradually recognized her as his twin sister, MALORIE. MALORIE embraced her brother. A child's emotions are hard to hide; AIDEN held her tightly, tears streaming down his face. They were both stunned for a moment before calming down. It seemed that because she had a feather inside her, the little girl understood what was happening (Malorie touched her chest to show it). Then she looked at Aiden, at the curse consuming her brother, and worried. Malorie gave Aiden back the wooden violin, which was originally hers. Aiden was silent, not understanding Malorie's meaning. Then she took the Grimoire, pointed to a page with symbols that seemed to be a way to dispel the dark night, and asked the two of them to play the instrument, standing symmetrically, and play a waltz. Aiden knew that dispelling the music would also mean Malorie would truly disappear (the drawing showed separation), so he initially turned his head away as if to refuse. Malorie smiled, she cupped Aiden's cheek with her hand, and he held her hand as if clinging to it one last time. Malorie took off her hair clip and gave it to Aiden as a final memento. AIDEN tucked it into his jacket pocket, and MALORIE offered him his hand to stand up. AIDEN, with a hint of sadness still in his eyes, decided to temporarily set it aside to perform one last waltz with his sister. MALORIE touched the violin, revealing a violin with a pure white soul. THE ENDING The two stood close together, symmetrical, preparing together, playing the final melody together. As the music played, a white light gradually emerged, the curse on AIDEN slowly vanished, MALORIE's soul shattered and flew away, and the darkness dissipated. The synchronized sounds of their voices had worked, but when the music ended, MALORIE was no longer there, the fragments of light from her soul carried away by the wind… AIDEN stood there, stunned, looking down at his sister's violin. He decided to leave the violin at the base of the hawthorn tree. After a while, he remembered the hairpin his sister had given him, and he took it out. The hairpin had transformed into a white butterfly. He was slightly surprised, but then he understood what he should do. AIDEN smiled, his eyes still tinged with sadness, and decided to release the butterfly. It flew away on the wind, into the pure white sky, and disappeared…
